Up to 35 people are reported to have lost their lives in what the governor of Instanbull Vasip Sahin describe as a terrorist attack on a nightclub .
According to Vaasip, a police officer was also among the victims. And another 40 were injured.
The attack took place in the Reina nightclub, in the Ortakoy area, at about 01:30 local time (22:30 GMT).
Report claims that One attacker was dressed in a Santa Claus costume.

While speaking to news men at the scene Mr sahin said,
"a terrorist with a long-range weapon ... brutally and savagely carried out this incident by firing bullets on innocent people who were there solely to celebrate the New Year and have fun,"
